ORION: The A&D Solution
A&D has developed the new tool ORION to help engineers with these ever-increasing problems. ORION is a supervisory test cell control system for automating the characterization and calibration of engines.
- ORION facilitates the calibration process by taking control of both the ECU calibration system and the test cell control system to run experiments as part of an automated calibration process.
- ORION takes a DoE as input
- The user defines a sequence of actions to complete the calibration task in a user-friendly GUI
- The sequence is then run in the test cell commanding both the test cell control system and the calibration system according to the actions in the sequence.
- Data is collected along the way as directed to characterize the engine
- This data is then output after the test to the next step in the model-based calibration process
How ORION fits in the Process
ORION is designed to fit in a model-based calibration process that looks like this:

- ORION allows great flexibility in the process by taking its inputs in open, simple formats (.csv for DoE, ASAP2 for parameters).
- Outputs are also produced in simple, open format (.csv for data).
- This allows the use of any tools you choose in the other parts of the process that best fit the needs of your specific application
